– Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed the signing of former Real Betis midfielder and La Roja international Fabian Ruiz from Napoli.

– The move is the latest in what is an increasingly impressive transfer window from the French side driven by Luis Campos.

– He moves to Paris for a fee of €21.5m plus bonuses.

– Ruiz has also penned a five-year contract running to 2027.

– The Spaniard was in the final year of his contract with Napoli and had refused an extension, so had to be sold this summer.

– Ruiz, 26, joined Napoli in 2018 from Real Betis for a fee of €30m.

– The 26-year-old has 15 caps for Spain since making his debut in 2019 and has even scored once on international duty. He had seven goals and five assists for Napoli in all competitions last season, helping them to a third-placed finish in Serie A.

– Ruiz is PSG’s sixth signing since the close season after midfielders Vitinha and Renato Sanches, defenders Nuno Mendes and Nordi Mukiele, and forward Hugo Ekitike. PSG are top of Ligue 1 with 10 points and next play Toulouse on Wednesday.

– Napoli opened a four-point lead over Juventus in the race for third place in Serie A after Fabian Ruiz’s second-half goal helped them win 1-0 at Torino on Saturday.

– With two matches left, Napoli are third on 73 points, ahead of fourth-placed Juventus, whose chances of winning the title ended after Friday’s 2-1 shock defeat at relegation-threatened Genoa. Torino are tenth on 47 points.

– After a dispiriting first half in which Napoli struggled to finish off their chances, central midfielder Ruiz found the breakthrough, firing in a low effort in the 73rd minute.

– Ruiz took advantage of Tommaso Pobega’s blunder and got past two defenders before finding the net as Luciano Spalletti’s side recovered from Lorenzo Insigne missing a penalty on the hour mark.

– Torino’s best chance to score came in the first half when striker Andrea Belotti attempted a back-flicked header, but Napoli goalkeeper David Ospina dived at full stretch to make a brilliant save.
