Time has again proved Rema to have survived possible fall after leaving a giant like Don Jazzy’s Marvin Records.

Among his current feats, the Nigerian Afrobeats singer with Divine Ikubor as the real name has been named among international music stars set to perform at the opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States.

Not all singers who leave big labels step out to tell glory stories and D’Banj’s adventures after parting with Jazzy in their Mo Hits’ divorce is an example.

FIFA made the Rema announcement in a statement posted on its official Instagram handle on Saturday.

FIFA said South African star Tyla, American rapper Future, pop icon Katy Perry, Brazilian singer Anitta and BLACKPINK member LISA will join Rema on stage at the Los Angeles Stadium.

According to the football governing body, three opening ceremonies will be held separately across the three host countries, with the United States’ celebration holding on June 12.

FIFA said ceremonies will also be held on June 11 in Mexico City and on June 12 in Toronto, Canada, combining football, music and entertainment in what it described as a “historic summer” across the North American countries.

“For the first time in FIFA World Cup history, a new benchmark will be set as three spectacular opening ceremonies unfold across Mexico City (11 June), Toronto and Los Angeles (12 June).

“Global superstars Katy Perry, Future, Anitta, LISA, Rema and Tyla will headline the celebrations in Los Angeles, with additional world-renowned artists still to be announced.

“Together, they will bring the sound of the FIFA World Cup 2026 to life for a global audience, delivering a high-energy spectacle that reflects the scale, ambition and cultural power of the tournament itself,” it said.

FIFA President, Gianni Infantino, described the lineup as a reflection of cultural diversity and the unifying power of music and sports.

The World Cup will kick moff on June 11, featuring a record 104 matches across 16 host cities in Canada, Mexico and the United States.

The opening match is between Mexico and South Africa at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City, while the final is slated to hold on Sunday July 19 at the New York New Jersey Stadium.

NAN reports that Rema has continued to gain international recognition following the global success of his hit song “Calm Down” and several performances on major international stages.

The “Heis” crooner has also made history as the first African artiste to perform at the prestigious Ballon d’Or ceremony, when he thrilled audience at the 2023 Ballon d’Or ceremony in Paris, France.

Mavin Records boss, Don Jazzy, has recalled the dramatic way he discovered Ayra Starr and got her signed onto his label.

At the time, he was looking for an artiste with Gen-Z vibes who would fill a vacuum he had spotted.

He saw Starr’s imprints online but it was not easy for him to get to her.

In an interview, Jazzy recalls: “I don’t know whether it’s a genius idea or not. It just felt like the industry needed it, you know what I’m saying. For somebody like Ayra, there was a space for a young teenage Afrobeat superstar from Nigeria that we want to make sure becomes global. So it was very intentional.

“I saw her, she posted on Instagram and I saw it. For her actually, I reached out to one of these young GenZ Ladies that I follow on the internet that everybody said I like to follow people but anyway, I reached out to one of them.

“I said, hello. I might not be able to come to like you people schools and things like that to Find some of the talents that people have. In your school or in your circle of friends You don’t have somebody, people that can sing that you know All your friends know that the person can sing and this one, this one, this one, this one You say, in my school we have some people, this one, this one, this one.

“She sent a couple of Instagram pages of some people That oh look at them and you say I look at them. I said, okay fine. They’re not bad I’ll keep watching them to see how they will move on the social media space And luckily for me, one of those days She now saw a video where I was freestyling and sent it to me.

“I didn’t respond to her before I went to go and approach. Because I saw the video, the context Yeah, the context, what she was talking about in the video was why did you make me to do this? Why did you make me to, why did you give me the drug that I took? I was like, this girl looks young Yeah, I was like we don’t have any Afrobeat song that talks, that talks about this Gen Z What do you call it, experience or whatever. So I went to her and I entered her DM I said, hello, how are you? Whatever.

“She didn’t answer me first. I saw her brother. I saw a post that she posted with her brother as well I sent a message as well to her brother.”

Phenomenal.

Bola Afolabi

About three days after popular broadcaster, Toke Makinwa, expressed her desire to be even the fifth wife now, Nollywood star, Angela Okorie, has created a big role for Jesus Christ in her dream to marry right.

She prayed to Him as she dissociated self from a partner whom she describes in several negative terms.

“I will marry right in Jesus name,” she wrote in an Instagram post.

At 49, Okorie is among Nigeria’s most eligible single stars.

While Makinwa is 40 and had been in a marriage that ended in in 2017, the likes of Eniola Badmus (42) and Don Jazzy (also 42) are also still single.

Expressing disdain for the partner, Okorie had written: “Make una wan that mad man, make he no dey post my picture na. I blocked Casanova for a long time; I don’t leave for Nollywood girls and more. Until I marry, y’all will never see my man or even know what he looks like again. Make una carry am, e fits you, not Legit Queen. I will marry right in Jesus’ name; I will not marry a man who has eyes on other women. I will marry a real king who knows his left and right, not an efulefu very gullible, easily accessible.

“If you write am not he go just reply. He saw real fame come dey jump up and down.

“I blocked him and removed his pics out of my page, when I found out he is using me to get relevance and women. He even told me one day that I caught his chat with a Nollywood girl. I was so angry, although he told me one day he would make sure he sleeps with all those rich women in Lagos and in Nollywood. I was like, who does that? The thing is, I found out early about him and deleted everything that looked like him around. In fact, at some point, I thought I was dating my enemy; he is not who he claims to be. Noise of empty selfridges bags and cheap foods in restaurants, a damaged man.”

Mavin Record’s founder, Don Jazzy, has highlighted some seven attributes of his newly appointed ChiefOperation Officer, Tega Oghenejobo.

Jazy founded Mavin after the death of Mo’Hits, which he co-founded with D’Banj.

It has become one of the most successful outfits even beyond Nigeria.

Announcing the emergence of Ogenejobo as the new COO, Jazzy lists the traits to include passion, resilience and team spirit.

He notes in an IG post: He wrote on Instagram: “I’m proud to announce Tega’s expanded role as President and COO of Mavin. I am often praised for being able to spot and raise superstars, but I can proudly say the most genius thing I have done in my life was being able to spot the passion and resilience in Tega.

“From the early days, I’ve watched him be curious about the business, build teams, develop executives, and ensure our talents have sustainable careers from the start. His commitment to growing Mavin and shaping the future of African music has been relentless, and I’m confident that with him in this role, we’ll continue to break new ground and achieve even bigger milestones for our artists and company. Congratulations @tegamavin.”

Popular comedian, DeeOne, has expressed concern at the response of Don Jazzy to Oluwadolarz’s claim about being asked to engage in an homosexual act before his music can be promoted.

Recall that Oluwadolarz recently turned to social media, claiming that a producer asked him to engage in an homosexual act with him before he could help him gain a great shift in the music industry.

Don Jazzy’s answer, which challenged Oluwadolarz to identify the purported promoter, sparked a heated Internet debate.

In an Instagram video, Deeone questioned Don Jazzy’s motivations, claiming that it was rare for the Mavin Records founder to address claims that did not directly involve him.

“Don Jazzy, this is the first time in your history of social media wey you go talk down or try silence person and to be honest I’m wondering why.

So my question now is, why are you trying to silence or talk down on somebody’s truth?

Do you want to say now that Oluwadolarz is chasing clout?

Na small small people’s character go dey come out. This is a man that he dey give, the public dey respect and like him for that.

Why are you trying to make it look as if this guy’s talk no valid? If na you, you go like am?

Make we leave sentiments, Nigerians think.”

Controversial online watchdog, VeryDarkMan, has received a big lift as acclaimed music producer, Don Jazzy, has donated N100m to his non-governmental organisation.

This came days after a Lagos court asked VeryDarkMan to pay N500m damage to veteran lawyer, Femi Falana, over a libel case.

VDM had earlier raised the alarm as the amount was anonymously dumped into his account.

He has, however, discovered the sweet truth.

HThe man, who announced that the NGO would focus on community development and improving public schools, initially raised concerns in a video on his Instagram account, questioning the large deposit and requesting an investigation by Zenith Bank.

“@zenithbankplc please investigate my NGO account, I don’t know what is going on, hope im not being set up….I AM NOT INTO MONEY L^UNDERING I DO NOT DO FR^UD(FOR THE RECORD) Nigerians bare me witness I don’t know what’s up with the account,” he posted.

However, in a new video released on Thursday, VeryDarkMan confirmed that Don Jazzy had reached out to inform him that he made the donation to support the cause
