About two weeks after President Muhammadu Buhari ordered security agents to gun down anyone seen carrying AK-47, no one has been killed for the offence.

This is the observation of Senator Ndidi Elumelu, who wondered why this is so.

Speaking during a debate on the floor of the Senate, Elumelu decried a situation such an order is given without anyone carrying it out.

Controversy has for long been surrounding arms bearing by herdsmen, and this is the genesis of the presidential order.

Many observers had, however, also wondered why Buhari did not order those illegally carrying the arms to lay them down by taking them to security agencies.

The order does not also expressly state the mopping up of the weapons.
