Ado Bayero’s family solicits N150m to get house in Lagos

In a manner affirming that the rich also cry, Zainab, a daughter of the late influential Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero, has said that she and her mother and sibling are stranded in Lagos.

She says they need a permanent home as they have been living in rented ones, including hotels.

According to her, they want to get a house for N150m.

In an interview with ‘Premium Times’, Zainab called on Kano State Governor, Abas Yusuf; as well as President Bola Tinubu for intervention.

She says: “I know a lot of people will be very surprised that the daughter of an Emir is in this kind of situation. Being born into a polygamous home, there are a lot of intrigues and divisions. The whole thing started when my daddy died; his death left a void within the family. Everyone was alone, especially me, my mother and my younger brother. We were not given a part of his (my father’s) estate, so we were left in a terrible situation, which has been going on for ten years.

“We’ve been trying to survive and find ways to get back on our feet and return to a proper environment—to have a home, not renting or moving from hotel to hotel. We would love the governor to help us buy or give us money to get a house here in Lagos. Since our father’s death, we believe it would be better to relocate to Lagos and start a new life for safety and freedom and to live our lives the way we want. However, with the current skyrocketing prices, we’re looking at around N150 million for a house in Lagos.

“I reached out to the governor in a publication on 23 June when my mother, brother, and I were staying at a hotel in VI. We haven’t had an apartment since last year and were behind on hotel bills. The next day, he sent someone to settle the bills and asked, ‘What do we need?’ We told him we wanted a home, for my brother to return to school, and something to do.

“He (the governor through his representative) gave us some money, but we didn’t meet the governor in person; it was all through an intermediary. We don’t know the governor’s plans, but he mentioned wanting to buy us a house in Kano. I told him, no, we want a house in Lagos. What he gave us wasn’t enough to rent a house for a year. So, we’ve been trying to find a place, but the funds aren’t sufficient. We’re in the same situation again.”

Kano royal battle: No hassles as Sanusi leads Jumat prayer

Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi, Emir of Kano, peacefully led the Jumat service at the Kofar Kudu Central Mosque in Kano on Friday in spite of the earlier anxiety that the Emir contending the office with him, Aminu Ado Bayero, was also poised to do the same in the city.

There were reports on Friday morning that both had vowed to lead the prayer but Sanusi did so while Bayero led the one in Nasrawa, where his palace is for now.

Police had also said there was no need for any tension as the plan was for both to perform the function separately.

In a statement by Abdullahi Kiyawa, spokesman of Kano Police Command, said, “The Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, FIPMA, psc further assured that all necessary security arrangements have been made for Alhaji Aminu Bayero to observe his Jummah Prayers in the Mosque where he lives at the Nasarawa Palace.

“The CP also assured that the Police and all other state security agencies will provide adequate security at the Palace where Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II is expected to observe his Jumma’at Prayers.

“Members of the public are therefore advised to ignore the false reports and misinformation circulating on social media and to go about their activities without fear of molestation or intimidation assuring that the Police will continue to provide the necessary security for ensuring that residents observe their Friday congressional prayers peacefully and without threats to their lives and property.”

Meanwhile, Sanusi preached about the imperative of taking whatever God says as destiny.

He said, “Whoever believes that Allah alone gives everything must take the decision of Allah wholeheartedly. No one asks Allah’s reasons for anything.

“We were told that whoever did not accept destiny is from Allah, his belief is not complete. One should be thankful in times of good and bad situations. We must believe that whatever happens to us is predestined from God and what we couldn’t have is from Him.

“We are fast approaching Zhul Hijja which is very beneficial and we must observe supplications these days.” from the mini palace since then.

Latest on Kano tussle: Protest in Gaya, Rimi’s old interview on emir’s status sparks more controversy

As the tussle between the two contenders for Kano emirship  lingers, there was a protest in Gaya on Sunday for the resuscitation of one of the five emirates dissolved by the state government.

This is as controversy lingers over whom the Emir of Kano is between Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II and Aminu Ado Bayero.

While Sanusi, whom the government has reinstated is in the main palace, Bayero, on the strength of a court order halting the repeal of the 2019 law that brought him to power, is in a ‘mini’ palace.

Making the debates over the tussle more intriguing is the resurfacing of an old interview by Second Republic Governor of Kano State, the late Abubakar Rimi, declaring that the Emir of Kano is just a public officer subject to the power of the governor.

But as ‘Daily Trust’ reports, the other four emirates affected are Rano, Gaya, Karaye and Bichi.

The governor also directed all the monarchs, including Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir, Emir of Gaya, to hand over to Comrade Abdulsalam Gwarzo, Deputy Governor, who oversees the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affair.

Residents told ‘Daily Trust’ that the dethroned Emir vacated the palace at midnight on Thursday.

There was no sign of any form of violence or resistance in the town as there was the presence of armed security personnel.

A resident, Abubakar Shuaibu, had said some people were not happy with the development.

But on Sunday morning, residents trooped to the streets to reject the dissolution of the emirate.

Wielding placards and chanting anti-government songs, the protesters alleged injustice, saying the dissolution of the emirate has political undertone.

No need for violent enforcement or rejection of order halting repeal of Nao emirate law – Ulamas

Amid the anxiety that Kano is witnessing over the kingship tussle in the city, its Ulamas – scholars –  have warned against violent enforcement or rejection if the court order that halted the repeal of the 2019 emirate law in the state.

Governor Abba Yusuf had rejected the order and went ahead to implement the new law enacted by the State House of Assembly, saying the judge gave the order from the US.

He has thus reinstated Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi as the Emir of Kano.

But the Emir removed from the position, Aminu Ado Bayero, has stood his ground, saying the court order must be obeyed.

Against this background, the Ulamas on Saturday intervened, urging the Federal Government to ,as a matter of urgency, allow peace reign.

The Ulamas made the call in a statement signed by the council led by Shaikh Abdullahi Uwais Limanci.

They said the recent happenings in the emirate could escalate and degenerate into chaos if not carefully handled.

The statement read: “Kano State is one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria despite its political complexity. The recent happenings in the Emirate if not carefully handled could escalate and degenerate into chaos. It is imperative for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take all necessary steps to maintain peace in the State.

“While it is the purview of the State House of Assembly to enact Laws for good governance, the State Government needs the cooperation and support of the Federal Government. The State Assembly amended the Kano State Emirates Law and the Governor assented. One person took the case to Court that the law violates his Fundamental Human Rights. He is entitled to his rights.

“The State Governor also has responsibility as the Chief Executive of the State as the act in question has already been completed. Therefore there is no need for violent enforcement of any order or violent resistant to it, and we vehemently oppose any measures that will bring escalation of conflict in the State.

“Mr. President as the leader of the nation should not allow the contest for a royal stool to degenerate to violence. We are calling on Mr. President to allow the people of Kano State to resolve these issues amicably without use of any force and loss of lives. Kano State is one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria, therefore we the undersigned call on both contending parties to use civil means in resolving their differences to allow peace to reign in the state. As major stakeholders in the state, we want to assure Mr. President that we shall reach out to contenders.

“May the Almighty Allah bring peace and prosperity to our nation as a whole.”
