Amotekun foil kidnap attempt, save victims without paying ransom

“The fifth victim was kidnapped on Ikare-Owo Road on May 6th, but was rescued without paying one kobo despite the matchete cuts inflicted on him. His kidnappers demanded N50 million.

“He is recieving attention at our medical facility. We acted on credible intelligence and we assure the people that we will act promptly and treat any information in strict confidence.

Officers and men of amotekun are already on 24 hour patrols, while our rangers are already in the forest to ensure prompt response to any credibe information.

“The Ondo State Government is doing everything to ensure safety of lives and properties of its residents. We are committed to ensuring zero tolerance to crime, kidnapping and armed robbery,” he said.

Amotekun parades 12 suspected kidnappers, armed robbers in Ondo

The Western Nigeria Security Network, codenamed Amotekun Corps, has arrested 12 suspected kidnappers and armed robbers in Ondo state.

Adetunji Adeleye, the Corps Commander of Amotekun in Ondo State, disclosed this on Sunday while parading the suspects at the command’s headquarters in Akure.

Adeleye, who is also the Special Adviser to Ondo State Governor on Security Matters, gave a stern warning to criminals hiding in forest reserves in the state “to pack and leave the state or face the wrath of the law”.

“We sre determined to eradicate crime in all nooks and crannies in the state, so there is no hiding place for criminals.

“From the 12 suspects being paraded today, seven of them were arrested in Owo.

“And out of the arrested seven, four of them were contracted with the job of kidnapping and armed robbery in Ondo State by the remaining three.

“We were able to apprehend them with their rifles and camouflage they used in deceiving unsuspecting commuters on the road and they have made confessional statements.

“We also have a syndicate that specialises in the robbery of commercial motorcycles (Okada) in Akure and Akoko areas.

“Our efforts so far, is to drive home our position of zero-tolerance to all forms of criminalities and crimes in Ondo State.

“We want to further assure the good people of the state, that all security agencies are working in synergy to ensure that this yuletide period is crime free,” he said.

Adeleye also disclsosed that the corps had deployed 1,500 officers to the18 Local government area of the state to ensure security during the yuletide celebrations.

“By the grace of God, the yuletide festivities will be peaceful and I want to assure the good people of Ondo State, that all hands are on deck.

“All security agencies in the state are on alert to guarantee 24 hours patrol and safety of lives and property of residents and commuters in the state,” he said.

Two teenage girls kidnap themselves in Ondo, demand N100,000 from their mother

The ‘business’ of kidnapping has got a twist as operatives of the Amotekun – the Ondo State Security Network Agency – have arrested two minors for allegedly feigning being kidnapped. The duo (names withheld) were nabbed after locking themselves inside a hotel room in the Akoko area of the state and demanded ransom from their parents for their release.

The Commander of the Amotekun Corps, Adetunji Adeleye, said the girls, one 13 and the other 15 years old, hid themselves and demanded a ransom of N100,000 from their mother after faking their abduction. He added that the two girls also threatened the monarch of the town to pay the ransom within 24 hours or ‘they would kill the abductees in their custody.’

The Amotekun Corps boss, who also doubles as the Special Adviser, Security Matters to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, said that the teenagers were nabbed through a joint operation with the operatives of the State Security Service (SSS) after tracking the telephone line being used by the girls.

When interrogated, the youngest of the two sisters said they spent a night in their grandma’s house and left there around 6:00 am after they had left the house.

“We left the house because my mother used to behave to us as if she is not the one that gave birth to me and decided to collect money from her,” she  said

The Amotekun commandant said the two minors from Oka-Akoko, kidnapped themselves and demanded N100,000 ransom from their parents and the traditional ruler of the community.

‘’They were later arrested in a hotel after staying there for three days. Their parent raised the alarm that their children were kidnapped and reported at the Amotekun office, and we swung into action but when they called for ransom we tracked the phone number they used and we were able to arrest them, but the young girls attributed their action to the ill-treatment by their mother.

We appreciate the Department of State Service (DSS) for assisting us in apprehending them. When they were negotiating, they even threatened the traditional ruler that if the ransom was not paid within two hours, they are going to kill the victims without knowing that they are the criminals perpetrating the act.” he said

The Amotekun security squad in Ondo State say they have arrested those who attacked St Frances Church, Owo, in the state on June 5.

The attackers killed some 40 people, casting gloom on the state and beyond.

But the Amotekun said on Thursday that they have arrested the suspects as well as the vehicle and equipment they sed.

On how they were able to do this, leadder of the team, Adetunji Adeleye, said the squad had pursued the criminals until they got them.

He said investigation continued and more information would be given later.

The Ondo State Security Network Agency, codenamed “Amotekun Corps” has confirmed that some suspects have been arrested in connection with the terrorist attack on St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo.

The suspected terrorist invaded the church on June 5, killing no fewer than 40 people and injuring many other worshippers.

Adeleye, who is the Commander of Amotekun, Adetunji Adeleye, said while parading 71 suspects arrested for various crimes: “As regards the Owo incident, we have recovered the last vehicle they used for that operation and we made some arrests and we have also recovered some vital things which we are working on.

“A number of people have been arrested concerning the Owo issue as well as well number of equipment. On that day, we pursued them to the point that we recovered the vehicle and we are still pursuing them We have told you that until we get to the root, I can assure you that the perpetrators and their sponsors will be brought to book.”

Amotekun arrests 400 cows in Ondo

The anti-open grazing stance of the Akeredolu government is taking root as the Amotekun in the state have arrested 400 cows.

The state Commander of the security network, Adetunji Adeleye, said this was the product of the vigilance and patrol being mounted by it, alongside hunters.

He said, “We started from the state capital and combed all the black spots and made over 400 arrests before we headed to the local government areas and concentrated on the northern senatorial district of the state where we embarked on 24 hours patrol.

“We engaged the services of local hunters and vigilantes to join our men and patrol the forest. Substantially, we were also able to drive out the bad guys in recent times. You will find out that most of the kidnap cases you get nowadays are at the border.

“We have put out searchlight and we have mapped out security strategies to checkmate the activities of those bad people. Ose local government area has boundaries with Edo and Kogi States and it offers an easy-access way out. But we are checking them.”

Amotekun seize 100 cows in Ondo

Local security operatives, the Amotekun, have arrested 100 cows being herded on a highway in the state.

The Rotimi Akeredolu government has been talking tough against open grazing and invasion of reserved forests in the state, to the extent that he has initiated a bill banning open grazing.

According to the head of the Amotekun in the state, Adetunji Adeleye, the cattle were intercepted at the boundary between Osun and Ondo states, while trying to enter the latter.

Detaisls concerning the next move are still scanty, however.
