The command advised residents to keep such personal details within the confines of their family.

This is contained in a security and safety advisory issued by the Command through its Spokesman, SP Daniel Ndukwe, on Wednesday in Enugu.

Ndukwe urged residents using public transportation to travel only with reputable transport companies operating from recognised motor parks.

According to him, residents must avoid boarding roadside vehicles or unregistered transport services, to avoid cases of “one-chance”.

“Provide correct information on travel manifests by filling out accurate and traceable personal information as this will help emergency responders reach your family quickly, if necessary.

“Plan your movements, outings, and engagements carefully, and familiarise yourself with the security climate of your current location and any place you intend to visit.

“Do not embark on any journey without first assessing the safety of both the route and your destination.

“Pay attention to unfamiliar faces, behaviours, or unusual movements around you and report any suspicious persons or activities to the nearest security agency without delay,” he said.

Ndukwe cautioned that high speed increases risks of accident, adding that residents must avoid night journeys, driving during poor visibility as well as intake of alcohol before and during driving.

“Avoid all distractions while driving such as texting, unsafe calls, or device manipulation, and make sure all passengers wear seat belts (front and back seats).

“Do not hide spare keys under mats, flowerpots, or any predictable place; Where necessary, entrust your keys to a trustworthy person or institution such as your church or mosque.

“Switch on outside lights to create uncertainty about your presence and turn off all electrical appliances and sockets before traveling while ensuring fire alarms (if installed) are functional.

“Avoid storing petrol or other flammable substances inside your home and place fire extinguishers in accessible areas; while keeping emergency fire service numbers easily accessible,” he said.

Meanwhile, he urged residents to pray and entrust their journeys and celebrations into the hands of God.

In a statement by Mr Gbenga Fanegan, Public Relations Officer of the scheme in Edo.on Monday, Nafiu gave the warning  while addressing the 2025 Batch ‘C’ corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Okada, Edo over the weekend.

The NYSC boss regretted that disregard for travel rules had led to “avoidable dangers,” urging them to comply strictly with all mobility regulations.

The director-general stressed that such trips expose them to needless risks on Nigerian highways.

“I want to strongly advise you: do not travel without authorisation.

“It is for your safety. Many of the dangers young people encounter on our roads are avoidable,” he said.

The NYSC boss charged corps members to show respect to camp officials, and actively participate in all camp activities.

He also urged them to maintain high standards of discipline and patriotism in appreciation of the government’s investment in the scheme.

“You must be disciplined, decorous and patriotic. Participate fully in your activities and respect every official.

“That is how to justify the confidence the nation has placed in you,” he added.

Nafiu admonished Corps members to be security-conscious both inside and outside camp, urging them to avoid night journeys and remain vigilant in their host communities and places of primary assignment.

“Take responsibility for your personal security. Avoid night travels, avoid unnecessary movements, and be vigilant wherever you are posted,” he warned.

He also urged them to avoid the spread of misinformation.

“Always get the correct information and establish facts before circulating anything on social media,” he said.

The NYSC boss advised corps members to abstain from cultism, cybercrime, thuggery and other social vices, emphasising that such behaviours could jeopardize their safety and future.

In a show of encouragement, Nafiu celebrated corps members whose birthdays coincided with his visit, presenting them with a cake.

He also rewarded several camp groups, including the Cultural Troupe, Band, Martial Arts team, Quarter Guard, Chair Ladies, Overall Parade Commander, and the three Corps Camp Directors, with tokens of appreciation.

Earlier, Edo Coordinator of the scheme, Dr Frances Ben-Ushie, assured the director-general that corps members were “in high spirits, disciplined, well-behaved and fully engaged in all camp activities.”

She expressed gratitude to the NYSC management for supporting camp operations.

He thanked the NYSC boss for the visit, describing it as “highly inspiring and motivating.”

The visit is part of the DG’s nationwide tour of orientation camps aimed at strengthening compliance, boosting morale and ensuring the welfare and safety of Corps members across the country.

Guterres told the UN Security Council at UN headquarters that the growth in terrorist groups was “not only a regional dramatic reality.”

“Progressive links of its groups in Africa and beyond make it a growing global threat.”

The vast Sahel region which stretches almost coast to coast across Africa, accounts for 19 per cent of terrorist attacks worldwide and for over half of global terrorism-related casualties.

Around four million people are now displaced across Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger and neighbouring countries.

Guterres urged a “unified, coherent and consensus-based” regional response, the maintenance of financial support for humanitarian response plans and a development strategy to address the root causes of terrorism.

Along those lines, he encouraged intelligence sharing and financial tracking through the  UN Global Counter-Terrorism Compact, the UN’s coordination mechanism against terror, and ECOWAS’ counter-terrorism strategy.

He further noted that humanitarian appeals for the Sahel and Lake Chad Basin remain severely underfunded — less than one quarter of the 4.9 billion dollars required has been raised.

“Terrorists thrive where the social contract is broken,” he added, highlighting the need to fight poverty and invest in sustainable development.

Omar Touray, President of the ECOWAS Commission, warned that terrorism had spread beyond the Sahel and Lake Chad Basin to threaten all of West Africa.

He informed the Security Council that ECOWAS was accelerating deployment of its standby force, starting with 1,650 personnel and scaling up to 5,000 with regional and partner support.

He said that while partners have taken action to combat terrorism, the proliferation of these initiatives has led to “fragmentation,” hindering cooperation.

Touray stressed that coordination and cohesion must be a priority.

“No amount of money, no amount of equipment will help us overcome terror if we don’t collaborate and build synergy,” he said.

“Our current differences should not be exploited; they should be bridged,” he added.

Julius Bio, president of Sierra Leone, said: “We must re-imagine ECOWAS not just as a regional bloc, but as a community of courage, the moral compass and stabilising force of Africa.”

Bio also holds the Security Council presidency for November – and chair of ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government.

He called for democratic trust, as well as decisive action in the fight against extremism and regional security and coordination.

On those grounds, he proposed an ECOWAS-UN-African Union compact, a coordinated mechanism to ensure predictable financing and operations across the region

A viral video on Monday captured the duo trading blows inside a United Nigeria Airlines flight reportedly travelling from Asaba, Delta State, to Lagos.

The development reportedly caused disruption of the flight as other passengers struggled to separate them, and the airline’s crew later deboarded the two celebrities and handed them over to airport security for further interrogation.

However, VDM swiftly took to his Facebook page to confirm the altercation, boasting that he had “dealt with” Mr Jollof.

In a follow-up footage, he lifted his shirt to display bite marks on his chest, saying, “He bite me… man wey dey bite, he no shame.

“I enter plane, I see am. I say, ‘You go slap me today o.’ I go near am, he punch me.

Wike, who said this while addressing journalists in Abuja on Thursday, insisted that FCTA would not condone lawlessness by military officers, serving or retired.

According to him, no country will allow impurity and lawlessness, even among government officials, not to talk about private individuals.

His comments followed Tuesday’s confrontation with a naval officer, Lt. Ahmed Yerima, who denied him access to a disputed land, allegedly belonging to a retired Chief of Naval Staff, Awwal Gambo.

The minister urged Nigerians to learn to obey the law, adding that the FCT Administration would not tolerate any attempt to violate land use regulations or obstruct government officials performing their lawful duties.

He explained that his actions were guided strictly by law and not by sentiments or emotions.

Wike said that there were no documents to prove the military owned the land, adding that  the alleged impunity and lawlessness would not be tolerated.

He attributed the controversy that followed the incident to people that were not happy with his style of handling land matters, particularly his political enemies.

He added that the issue was blown out of proportion by those bent on portraying him as being at loggerheads with the military.

He maintained that he only intervened after top officials of the FCTA were assaulted while carrying out their official duties.

“As a Minister, I won’t sit in my office while those working with me are being attacked.

“Yes, I have  wounded some people politically and I have no regret about it. Yes, people are not happy over it.

“So when things happen like this, people will say all manner of things,” he said.

Wike, however, commended some leaders who contacted him to resolve the issues affecting them in the FCT, emphasising that due process must be followed.

He disclosed that the FCTA, had in the past, engaged the military hierarchy, including  a former head of state and president, on similar matters, adding that the issues were handled with mutual respect and understanding.

He recalled that when the Police had a similar issue, he personally visited the site where buildings were being constructed under a power line, and the Inspector-General of Police ensured the stoppage of the construction.

“A former president had the courtesy of calling me and said look, I have this problem. See how you can look into it.

“Another general will call you. Look at this and this. These are people; they are all retired generals. These are people with discipline.

“They didn’t bother because they were former chief of army staff or former presidents. They never sent soldiers, they never sent anybody to go and attack anybody,” Wike said.

The minister reaffirmed his commitment to developing the FCT in line with President Bola Tinubu’s vision of restoring order and sanity to the nation’s capital.

He promised that enforcement against illegal developments, land grabbing and violations of the Abuja Master Plan would continue without compromise.

He said the FCT Administration’s duty was to protect the integrity of Abuja’s Master Plan and ensure that all developments conform with approved land use.

“As long as I remain FCT Minister, the law will take its course. Abuja must reflect the image of Nigeria – disciplined, planned and lawful,” Wike declared.

The group said the decision was based on “jaundiced and obtrusive data supplied by groups with vested interests”.

This is contained in a policy statement signed by its Chairman, Dr Omoniyi Akinsiju, on Friday in Abuja.

Akinsiju said the data used by the U.S. government were drawn from questionable reports by local and international non-governmental organisations (NGOs), notably Intersociety and Open Doors.

According to him, the two organisations have consistently published exaggerated figures of faith-based killings in Nigeria, portraying the country as unsafe for Christians and as a site of alleged genocide.

“We are concerned about the inauspicious propagation of terrorism-related deaths as a singular religious conflict.

“It is immoral to concoct all manner of death-related data to justify a point of view,” he said.

IMPI maintained that its independent assessment of credible global data sources, including the Global Terrorism Index (GTI), shows that Nigeria’s security situation, though serious, does not justify the “genocide narrative” being advanced by some NGOs.

They noted that Intersociety claimed that 5,068 Christians were killed in Nigeria in 2022, while Open Doors reported 5,014 faith-related deaths in the same year, figures that, IMPI said, “do not reflect reality.”

“By contrast, the GTI placed total terrorism-related deaths in Nigeria at 392 in 2022, the lowest since 2011 and 565 in 2024, a far cry from the thousands cited by advocacy groups.

“This speaks to the industry of falsehood underpinning the advocacy to get Nigeria redesignated as a CPC,” IMPI stated.

The group leader argued that Trump’s decision in 2020 to place Nigeria on the CPC list, despite a decline in terrorism deaths, was influenced by these misleading statistics.

According to him, the import is that Intersociety attributed virtually all reported fatalities to Christian deaths.

“This deliberate inflation of figures aims to inflame divisive passions and justify a political decision already shaped by bias,” the think tank added.

“We urged the U.S. government to engage directly with Nigerian authorities and validate data before acting on advocacy-driven reports.

“A better understanding of the situation in Nigeria through government-to-government engagement would lead to a review and withdrawal of Nigeria from the CPC list,” he said

The group added that Trump’s statement could incite negative impacts if not checked, warning that such remark could cause panic instead of proffering security solution.

The group’s Chairman, Prince Diran Iyantan, in a statement on Monday in Akure, said Trump’s comments were “deliberately provocative” and aimed at destabilising Nigeria for personal geo-political and economic motives.

Iyantan described as a “reckless and deceitful” statement accusing Nigeria of “killing Christians” and for Trump’s threat on intention to invade the country.

The chairman said that the Federal Government had continued to confront Boko Haram and other extremist groups “with determination and sacrifice.”

“What Nigeria needs from the world is partnership, support, dialogue, and understanding not intimidation, falsehood or neo-colonial aggression disguised as moral outrage.

“There is no state-sponsored killing of Christians in Nigeria. Victims of terrorism cut across all faiths and are targeted by the same extremist insurgents,” Iyantan said.

He accused Trump of twisting Nigeria’s security challenges into a false narrative of religious persecution.

The group’s chairman questioned Trump’s selective concern for Christians in Nigeria but being silent on the concern of Christians in other conflict zones.

“If Trump is genuinely concerned about Christians, where is his outcry for those suffering in Syria, Ukraine, or the Congo?

“His selective empathy exposes the hollowness of this so-called concern; it is not about faith, but about politics and self-interest,” he said.

According to him, Trump’s remarks are a smokescreen for a broader agenda intended to undermine Nigeria’s image internationally.

He noted that the intended smear could tarnish the country’s image as the nation continued economic recovery under President Bola Tinubu’s reform-driven administration.

Iyantan added that Nigeria remained a secular nation founded on religious harmony and mutual respect since independence.

He urged Nigerians to remain united in the face of external provocation, stressing that “no foreign power should dictate our destiny.”

The residents, who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja, lamented that the recent price hike was unsustainable and impacting negatively on their expenses.

NAN reports that the price of cooking gas skyrocketed from N1,100 for 1kg to as high as N1,800 per kg in various outlets immediately after the PENGASSAN strike.

Mrs Tina Okojie, a businesswoman, said she refilled her 12.5kg cylinder for N18,125  as against N15,000.

“I had to visit three outlets in my area before I got to buy at Shafa filling station.

“We are already struggling to pay other bills and it is affecting my expenditure on other needs.

” I hope the government can address whatever the issues are with the price of cooking gas because many Nigerians rely on it as their cooking source,” she said.

Mr Nura Idris, a security man, said he could no longer afford to refill his 5kg cylinder due to the price increase as he called on the government to intervene.

“I usually fill my 5kg cylinder for between N5, 500 to N5, 800. Now the price is N8,000. So I just bought 3kg at N4,800 and I have been managing it.

“I call on the government to please help Nigerians. We are going through a lot of hardship; let them find a solution to the high cost of cooking gas,” he said.

Similarly, Mrs  Bose Ajibade, a tailor, said she could not afford to fill up her 12.5kg cylinder until the price comes down.

“I was refilling at N14,000, now it is N21,000 for the same 12.5kg in my area. The difference is too much. How many Nigerians can afford to buy gas at this price?

“I just bought what  N14,000 could give me because I have already budgeted that amount for gas, going beyond that will affect my expenses on other items.

“I have cautioned my children not to waste gas and always be alert when cooking. I am calling on the government to come to the aid of Nigerians and address the price increase,” she said.

Mrs Beatrice John, a civil servant, said she resorted to using charcoal as an alternative whenever the price of cooking gas increased.

“Whenever gas increases, I bring out my charcoal stove as my alternative. It is not really convenient but what can one do?

“I have a large family, and with the current price of gas, it will be difficult for us to sustain its use, coupled with other bills.

“The government needs to find a lasting solution to address the persistent increase in cooking gas,” she said.

However, Mrs Ese Okoro, a public servant, said she was able to get cooking gas at a cheaper rate compared to other outlets, amid long queues.

” I have refrained from using roadside outlets due to the price surge and resorted to buying from major marketers such as NIPCO which sells at about  N1,120 currently amid long queues.

“I filled my 12.5 kg cylinder with N14,000 after queueing for a few hours, but the situation seems to be easing gradually”

“I urge the Federal Government to fast-track full product circulation to restore normalcy and also enable affordability to mitigate sufferings being experienced by end-users.”

NAN reports that following the recent price hike, the Federal Government mandated the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) to intensify LPG depots monitoring to prevent product hoarding.

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas),  Dr Ekperikpe Ekpo, said the recent price surge was primarily caused by two factors which involved the industrial action by PENGASSAN at the Dangote Refinery.

Ekpo added that the other factor was the ongoing maintenance activities at the Nigeria LNG train four facility, which reduced the volume of LPG available in the domestic market.

He, however, assured that operations at the Dangote Refinery have now resumed, with loading of LPG to the domestic market already ongoing.

“Similarly, the Bonny River Terminal operated by Seplat Energy has commenced loading, while the Nigeria LNG is gradually restoring normal operations as maintenance nears completion.”

Ekpo appealed to Nigerians to remain calm and show understanding, while assuring that the situation was temporary and would normalise soon.

The minister also appealed to marketers, distributors, and all stakeholders in the LPG value chain to be patriotic in their dealings and to desist from hoarding.
