APC Convention: Subcommittee dismisses media report on N800m

The Media Subcommittee of the Convention Planning Committee of the APC has described as strange news and totally untrue, the media report that the subcommittee spent N800 million at the party’s convention.

The Media Subcommittee was headed by Gov. Abdullahi Sulaiman of Nassarawa and co-chaired by Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information and Culture.

The Secretary of the subcommittee, who is also media aide to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, in a statement on Saturday in Abuja, condemned the report, saying the subcommittee was only allocated N100 million.

He revealed that initially, the subcommittee submitted a budget of N360million but N100million was approved.

The statement read in part: ”The report in the Daily Telegraph that the Media Subcommittee of the Convention Planning Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), led by Gov. Abdullahi Sule of Nassarawa, co-chaired by Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information and Culture. spent a whopping amount of N800 million is strange news, totally untrue.

”If that huge amount of money was spent on media work at the convention, we make bold to say that we were, and still are unaware of the what, who, when and how it was expended.

”The subcommittee, which I served as secretary got the total sum of N100 million only. We thank the governor for giving us venue, tea and coffee.
We submitted a budget of about N360 million.

”When the Finance subcommittee said that even the N100 million paid us was in excess of our budgetary allocation, we scrambled backwards, canceling commitments duly entered into for billboards, production of documentaries, lamp pole ads and so many other things.

”Some we could cancel, others were irreversible.

”On the assurances given by our leaders, we negotiated a token of commitment to TV networks for Live Coverage, with everyone agreeing that was a must-do for the convention.

”At the very end, we could only pay half of that amount to each of the stations, hoping that the leadership of the party will take responsibility for the payment of the balances due as a matter of honor.”

According to him, the expenses sheet accounting for the N100 Million and the detailed report of the work by the subcommittee has since been sent to the party and shared with the committee leaders and its membership.

He stated that, in the course of doing this work, all payments to third parties were done by a committee member in the presence of at least two other members, saying this was in a bid to rise above scandal.

”In view of the astonishing revelation of the money allegedly spent by our committee in this report, we strongly suspect that our account, rendered to the party, detailing out every of our expenses may have been the trigger for the ongoing investigation and the reported suspensions.

”Whatever be the case, we are absolutely in support in the ongoing probe into the convention finances.

”To convince anyone that the party is ready to continue with the cleansing of the nation being carried out by the Muhammadu Buhari administration, it must first cleanse its own house.

Wasiu Ayinde (K1 De Ultimate) embraces live streaming App developed by Nigerian youth

Fans of “Fuji’’, a genre of Yoruba music may no longer have to leave the comfort of their homes to see live performances of their music idols.

One of such Fuji music idols, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, has embraced Imprxx, a digital application developed by a Nigerian youth, Mr Ayo Ilesanmi.

The App will assist Marshal to drive his music shows into homes and unto hand-held devices to entertain fans and to rake in money through data purchases.

Wasiu Ayinde stated in Kaduna on Saturday that the live event application would be very beneficial for entertainers who depended largely on live shows to make income.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Imprxx is an event hosting platform, developed specifically for hosting live events, broadcasts, and for income generation.

Ayinde Marshal explained that the app would make live shows easily accessible from any part of the world with just a click of a button on smartphones, tablets, laptops, desktop computers and other digital devices.

He pointed out that musicians in this part of the world depended largely on the spraying of money by fans during live shows as source of income.

According to K1, the application enables artists to make more money without the stress of being on a stage or at event halls, by streaming live from studios or from 02their homes and fans will pay directly through the app.

“This will also help during restriction of movement or gathering, as experienced during COVID-19 lockdown and when artistes become too old and too fragile to be moving from one venue to the other.

“The new technology will see entertainers like us investing more in online services that will provide a readily sustainable income through digital platforms like Imprxx,” he stated.

Ilesanmi who developed the app explained that it provides an on-call live event streaming solution with less than 15 minutes setup to record, process and broadcast live events.

He added that the app, currently loaded with performances by more than 107 musicians, was built with a peculiar feature for instant payment, thus providing a readily available means of payment to content creators.

He told NAN that young Nigerians had been partaking actively in creating technology-driven applications and business models that were getting global attention in the past two decades.

He said that the digital revolution had prompted some young minds to develop new technology-driven businesses that enabled entertainers to make money without going to a show or to an event.

“Before now, many artists, especially the traditional ones derived their major income from live shows which are normally done within a hall or open space.

“With Imprxx, live shows will be digitalised and will enable entertainers to be making money right from their living rooms or from designated studios,” he said.

The developer said that the app has the potential of empowering 25,000 youths in its value chain through installation and operation.

Ilesanmi also told NAN that those who would make income from the App’s spinoffs are videographers, content writers, digital marketers, social media influencers, graduates, and other entrepreneurs.

2023: I am loyal to Buhari, the APC – Amaechi says

A Presidential aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Rotimi Amaechi, has expressed his loyalty to President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC.

Amaechi, in a statement, said this at a consultative meeting with executives, delegates and other party faithful at the Rivers APC Secretariat on Friday.

The Minister of Transportation indicated that in his bid to become the President of Nigeria, which he is thoroughly qualified for, he was neither desperate nor disloyal.

The two terms governor of Rivers said it was sad that many politicians did not understand the concept of loyalty.

“Loyalty is not when you are not chosen, you become disloyal, loyalty means you follow the man that leads you, that you have surrendered to his leadership.

”If you don’t follow, it means you are not loyal, you are only benefitting from the man politically and economically. The day he’s not able to give you that economic reality, is the day you become disloyal.

“I am a very loyal person, and those who are disloyal, I wish them well, those who want to do whatever they want to do, I wish them well,” he said.

According to him, the opportunity will be given to everybody and all will run this presidential election.

“We will run and I am loyal to the President and I am loyal to the Party.

”If the party says it is me, thank God. If the party says it is not me, whoever the party chooses, I will support.

”If the Party and President chooses anybody, I will support the person, if the party chooses me, I will be glad and say thank God,” Amaechi said.

On his part, Chairman of the APC in Rivers State, Emeka Beke, assured Amaechi of the party’s support and votes in the presidential primaries.

“Sir, go home and sleep, Rivers delegates will vote for you, and I know my brothers who are statutory delegates will vote for you.

“This is because all of us seated here today from Rivers State have benefitted from you, from your leadership and this is the time to pay you back. We will stand with you.

“Let me use this opportunity to thank our brothers from other states, who have stood by our leader, Amaechi, I thank all of you. God Almighty will stand with you as you have chosen to stand by him.

“But one thing I will tell you is that our leader is a man of one word. When he says yes, his yes is yes, when he says no, his no is no, and I know that he’s a man that will not forget all of you that stood by him.

” By the grace of God you will be the presidential flag bearer, I will be the chairman that will produce Mr President, I will be the Chairman that will produce governor of Rivers State,” he said.

Amaechi also visited the Paramount ruler of Rebisi Kingdom in Port Harcourt, Eze Victor Woluchem, who expressed delight over his decision to run for the office of President in 2023.

While welcoming Amaechi, Woluchem commended his developmental strides in the state and the country at large.

“Your Excellency, Rivers State loves you for a reason. Your developmental projects has impacted and continues to impact our people and are all over the State for people to see.”

“I might not be able to enumerate all that you have done for this country.

”Nationally, as Minister of Transportation, you have put Nigeria on the map as a country with modern railway system, with modern Seaport and facilities to enhance our waterways and the industrialisation that comes with it.

“Indeed the history of this state will be incomplete without the mention of your name. Nigerians are excited over the likely possibility of a Rotimi Amaechi Presidency.

Keita fires Liverpool back above Manchester City

Naby Keita scored the only goal as a much-changed Liverpool beat in-form Newcastle United 1-0 at St James’ Park on Saturday.

The win helped the Reds to climb above Manchester City at the top of the 2021/2022 English Premier League (EPL) table.

Jurgen Klopp, who this week signed a contract extension to keep him at Anfield until 2026, had complained about the timing of this early kick-off.

He made five changes following Wednesday’s 2-0 win over Villarreal in their 2021/2022 UEFA Champions League semi-finals first leg clash.

Mohamed Salah, Thiago Alcantara and Trent Alexander-Arnold watched on from the bench as Keita —-– one of those recalled —-– drilled in a contentious goal with 19 minutes gone.

Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka kept his side in the game but Liverpool saw out the victory.

They moved two points above Manchester City ahead of the reigning champions’ trip to Leeds United.

Keita’s winner came after he exchanged passes with Diogo Jota and rounded Dubravka.

However, Newcastle United’s players felt the goal should have been ruled out for a James Milner foul on Fabian Schar.

However, while Milner did catch his opponent, replays showed the Liverpool midfielder cleanly won the ball first and referee Andre Marriner was not instructed by VAR to review the goal.

Newcastle United had a Miguel Almiron goal rightly disallowed for offside and otherwise struggled to create any openings.

Liverpool went close to a second goal before half-time when Jota’s header was palmed over.

Jota was denied by Dubravka three times in the second half and Sadio Mane planted a shot wide from a good position in his final meaningful involvement before being replaced by Salah.

Newcastle United had won four games in a row heading into this contest, though they only really tested Alisson through a Bruno Guimaraes drive.

Liverpool have now picked up a 13th league victory in their past 14 outings.

JAMB to candidates: Begin to print your slips

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), on Saturday, directed all candidates sitting for its 2022 examination to begin printing of their notification slips for the exercise.
The board gave the directive in a statement, signed by its Head, Public Affairs and Protocol, Dr Fabian Benjamin, in Abuja.
JAMB said that all candidates, who registered for the 2022 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) could start printing their 2022 UTME notification slips from Saturday, April 30 ahead of the exercise.
” The notification slip is available for printing by all candidates who had registered for the 2022 UTME scheduled to hold from Friday, 6th May, 2022 to 14th May, 2022.

” Printing of examination notification slip is compulsory for all candidates, as it enables them to know the venue, date, session and time of their examination.

” All candidates are advised to print slips on time so as to know the location of their examination centres, date of their scheduled sessions and time of the examination beforehand, especially with the adjustment in examination schedules this year.

” This would guide them in making necessary arrangements ahead of the exercise as the board frowns at lateness to its examination and no excuses would be entertained from any candidate, as a stitch in time, saves nine.”

The board said that printing of slips could be done at any available internet point, private or public, while adding that candidates were to visit https://www.jamb.gov.ng, click on 2022 UTME slip printing, insert registration number and print.

The board also said that the slip contained candidates’ important details such as, registration number, examination centre within their chosen examination town and the expected time to be at the centre.

JAMB reiterated that all candidates would be checked into the examination hall using the Biometric Verification Machine (BVM) which was also a register of attendance, in line with its “No biometric verification, no examination” policy.

JAMB said: “Candidates are also to note that no examination would be rescheduled for whatever reason.

“Therefore, all candidates are advised to prepare ahead and stay close to their examination venues, if possible, they should pay a prior visit to their centres before the date of the examination.

” Candidates are also reminded that the ban on prohibited items is still in force.

” Therefore, candidates should be careful not to run foul of the law as necessary sanctions would be meted out to violators of its code of conduct.

“The list of the banned items within the examination hall include but not limited to; flash drives, smart watches, calculators, recorders, mobile phones, spy reading glasses, jewellery, among others.”
