TRIBUTE TO IBB @ 79

By: Adeola Soetan(Baba (Sho)

IBB @ 79, Hurray! A Modest Tribute.
I join all Nigerians to congratulate our faithful leader and one of the fathers of our great nation, IBB.

He’s a personification of democracy, democratic culture, free and fair elections. His tenure as a famous Head of State before transformation to become the first Military President by popular demand withessed tremendous development, freedom of speech and freedom after speech, press freedom, security of life and property. Under his popular regime, no single journalist, human right and pro-democracy activist, labour union leader and student activist suffered any form of intimidation, illegal detention or assassination.

Babangida’s war against corruption was a benchmark worldwide and acclaimed by Transparency International as the best in Africa and Europe for 5 years of his 8 glorious years.

For his unequaled transparency in office and spartan lifestyle as a servant of the people, IBB left office voluntarily almost as a pauper with no mansion, no vehicle or any local or foreign property or account of his own except the modest face me I face you house he later built in Minna with his delayed military pension and Ajo (daily contribution). Certainly, IBB is a good representative of our past and present leaders who served or are serving our fatherland with all their strength.

We Nigerians, the ever grateful, ever respectful and trained to say no evil of our living or dead leaders, wish one of our foremost fathers, IBB, a happy birthday, many happy returns, long life and prosperity. Hip, Hip, Hip, Hurray!
