A businesswoman, Christiana Agboga, on Thursday appeared in a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, over alleged N3.8 million land and property fraud.
The defendant, who resides in Area 1, Garki, Abuja, is charged with two counts of forgery and cheating.
The Prosecuting Counsel, Fidelis Ogbobe, told the court that the defendant committed the offence between 2008 and 2010.
He alleged that the complainant, Abdulkadri Garuba, of Opaha Crescent, Kubwa, Abuja, reported the matter at the Area Command Metro through a written complaint.
Ogbobe alleged that the defendant forged some documents and used them to sell a plot of land to the complainant in the sum of N3.2 million.
He alleged that when the complainant went to the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), to verify the land papers, he was informed that the documents were fake.
In addition, the prosecutor stated that the complainant also gave Agboga N600,000 for a shop at the AMAC Market, Lugbe, Abuja, which she sold to him.
Ogbobe said that every effort to get his money back failed.
He noted that police investigation revealed that the documents were forged, adding that the shop the defendant sold to the complainant did not exist.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 322 and 364 of the Penal Code.
Agboga, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Ahmed Ndajiwo admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two reasonable and reliable sureties in like sum.
Ndajiwo adjourned the case until Aug.18, for hearing.
