The Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities (ASUU) has given what can be described as conditions for the reopening of schools and participation of Nigerian students in the West African Secondary Schools Certificate Examinations (WASSCE).
This is coming at a time the Federal Government is meeting with other stakeholders and discussing guidelines towards getting pupils bak to schools, at least in phases.
But ASUU President, Prof. Biodun Oguntoyinbo, has warned that asking any pupil to resume now can be suicidal.
According to a report in ‘Sunday Punch’, Oguntoyinbo, however, spelt out the conditions that should be met before reopening:
“If they put all the things in place, including social and physical distancing, sanitisers, kitting the children as we see in other places, decontamination with water flowing in the schools and all the gadgets, why not? So, if government can meet all these conditions, then they can reopen the schools. But if they cannot meet all these conditions, they should not experiment with even 10 students in any school.”
