An aspirant in the Peoples Democratic Party governorship primary in Edo State, Kenneth Imasuagbon, has stepped down for Governor Godwin Obaseki.
This happened a day after Imasuagbon swore that he would never do so, adding that he was prepared to lay down his life if that was needed for him to participate.
According to a report in ‘ThisDay’,
however, although Imasuagbon stepped down from the contest where 2,229 delegates will choose the PDP gubernatorial flagbearer, voting will still go on for affirmation of Obaseki’s candidacy.
“All is set for voting to begin at the Ogbemudia Stadium Benin City,: it adds.
Speaking with “TVC’ on Wednesday. Imasuagbon had vowed:
“I didn’t step aside. I didn’t step aside during the 16 years of struggling, of fighting godfathers; during the 16 years of giving scholarships, fighting hunger etc. Why will I step aside now?
“I am not going to setp aside. It is not true that I did so. It is fake news. I remain in the race and I am going to win.
“Democraccy must be defended. I am not going to submit my dream of 16 years to the pressure of godfathers. Wike conducted my primary in 2012. This time it is going to be a game between the people, delegates and godfathers. I have told the people, victory belongs to us. The godfathers are tiny in number and they are going to fail.
“Hijackers want to hijack the benefits of the people, it is not going to happen. I know the delegates have been tampered with to suit Obaseki. But the country belongs to everyone. Obaseki will fall. He will be beaten silly tomorrow, unless they kill everybody tomorrow. I am redy to die. They cannot jump the gun within 72 hours.”
