Katsina State Council of Traditional Rulers said it had constituted development associations that would complement government efforts in addressing kidnapping and other criminal activities in the state.

Chairman of the council, Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir, stated this on Thursday when members of the Council visited the state’s Governor, Alhaji Aminu Masari, to congratulate him on his re-election.

He said that the development associations would comprise of at least, 20 groups selected from ward, village and district levels in each local government area.

Kabir, who is also the Emir of Katsina, said that the associations would also work with relevant stakeholders in their respective areas to achieve set goals.

He urged the state government to assist the associations with logistics for smooth running of their activities.

The emir, however, urged the public to continue to expose criminals’ hideouts and activities with a view to curbing crimes in the state.

Receiving the visitors, Gov. Masari commended them for the visit, and said that traditional system of leadership remained the best way of dealing with current social problems in the society.

He said that his administration would continue to sustain current efforts of rehabilitation of institutions across the state.

Masari added that the task before the government was to ensure sustainability of the structure of traditional institutions for effective security system in the state.

He reiterated the need for people in the state to join hands with security agents to safeguard lives and property. (NAN)
