The Murtala Muhammed Foundation on Tuesday distributed food items to 280 widows including their children across seven local government areas of Kano.
Presenting the items to the District Head of Fagge, Alhaji Mahmud Ado-Bayero, the National leader of the Foundation, Hajiya Aisha Muhammed-Oyebode, said the gesture was important for the widows.
Muhammed-Oyebode, who is the first child of late Gen. Murtala Muhammed, represented by Malam Jamilu Sule, said the gesture was to support the Federal and State Governments toward alleviating the suffering of the people due to the COVID-19 lockdown.
According to her, the benefiting Local Government Areas include Fagge, Nasarawa, Tarauni, Municipal, Kumbotso, Dala and Gwale, where 40 widows from each, will benefit from the palliatives.
She urged the beneficiaries to make adequate use of the items for themselves and their children.
The Foundation’s leader also called on the beneficiaries to always follow the COVID-19 preventive measures as announced by the medical experts to avoid the spread of the pandemic.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, the District Head of Fagge, who is also the Tafidan Kano, represented by Malam Maikudi Shitu, commended the Foundation for the donation.
He added that the gesture came at a time when the people were facing challenges caused by the stay-at-home order occasioned by the pandemic.
“The gesture is first of its kind through my office, apart from that of the Federal and State Governments’ palliatives’ distribution still ongoing,’’ Ado-Bayero said.
The district head, however, assured the Foundation that the food items, which include rice, spaghetti and indomie would be distributed judiciously.
He also appealed to them to always follow the government order which were aimed at ensuring the public’s safety.
