Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has told his story of coronavirus infection.
According to the governor who tested positive like his counterparts in Bauchi and Oyo, he got infected in Abuja.
“It’s not a joke. I got it in Abuja and I infected four other people. Happily, all of us are okay now. We are all back to our normal lives,” he revealed on Saturday as the Guest Gpeaker on The Platform, an annual event of the Covenant Christian Centre, in Lagos.
According to him, in a bid to curtail the spread, he ensured that the state bought Personal Protective Equipments for the health workers.
He said: “Each and every case of COVID-19 we’ve had in the state was imported.
“I was the index case, fortunately, I would say, because it served to scare everyone in the state to come to the reality that COVID-19 is real.
“We didn’t want to expose any of our frontline workers to any risk, so we have a lot of PPEs for all our health workers.
“We also insured their (health workers) lives to the tune of N5 million.
“Anyone that dies in this process, his family will get N5 million and we have an additional disability insurance for those that get sick and cannot walk but are not dead.
“We are also giving a special allowance to all health workers as well as extraordinary allowances for those on the frontlines.
“This is the broad strategy that we’ve adopted in Kaduna State and we are implementing it with all energy and focus.”
Meanwhile, Kaduna State has recorded 14 fresh positive cases of Coronavirus (COVID-19), the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Amina Mohammed Baloni, has confirmed.
She disclosed this in Kaduna on Saturday at the daily briefing by the State Standing Committee on COVID-19.
This is contained in a statement issued by Mr Muyiwa Adekeye, the Special Adviser on Media and Communication to Gov. Nasir El-Rufai.
Baloni explained that the positive results were obtained from some Qur’anic school pupils (Almajirai), who were repatriated from Kano, adding that the figure may rise as more test results are awaited from NCDC.
The commissioner however assured that the repatriated Almajirai are being accommodated in one location and have not mingled with the community.
Baloni also told the Standing Committee “that installation of a PCR machine has commenced at the Yusuf Dantsoho General Hospital”.
“When accredited by the NCDC, this will increase to three the number of COVID-19 testing labs activated in Kaduna State during this pandemic,” she assured.
