Popular comedian, Ali Baba, has recalled that it took him up to six years before he could make his first one million naira.

According to him, that was how challenging it was in the industry when he was launching out around 1987.

The acclaimed comedian is, however, happy that things have changed now, with the possibility that some comedians make the same amount in a day.

Ali Baba said this in an interview with ‘Channels Television’, when speaking on the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the scene.

According to him, it has adversely affected his people because of the nature of their business.

He said, “It has affected us greatly. We are not salary earners. The consolation is that a lot of us are trying to catch up online. You know, you have a fans base that you want to serve.”

He and other senior comedians, including Basketmouth, AY, Gbenga Adeyinka and Tee A, are reaching out to budding humour merchants since time is difficult for them.

They are offering palliatives that include foodstuffs.

On lessons to be learnt from the recession caused by the pandemic, he identifies the fact that people should now know the relevance of hygiene as well as socializing.

“You don’t have to take people for granted. There is also the need to diversify our economy. Things we ought to have invested in, we didn’t. There has to be reawakening, there has to be relearning,” he said.
