Press Secretary to Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde, Mr Taiwo Adisa, has disabused the minds of those insinuating that it was at the recent Ibadan rally of the Peoples Democratic Party that the governor contracted coronavirus.
According to Adisa, his boss contracted it from ‘known people’ in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
Makinde is among the three governors who have tested positive to the pandemic, with the total number in Nigeria being 135.
Speaking on Silverbird Television (STV) on Tuesday, Adisa said it was wrong to use the health saga as a political tool.
He said:
“The issue of the March 18 PDP southwest Zonal Unification Rally doesn’t come to play because there was no known incident of the virus in Oyo State and the governor didn’t also have any symptom(s) as at that time.
“The governors went back to Abuja the following day and they held a series of meetings. The governor had contact with people that are known. So, we should not politicise an issue like this.”
There have been a lot of debate online, with some people flinging the clip of a video in which Makinde spoke at the Peoples Democratic Party rally, noting that the pandemic would not come the way of he and his people.
But others are sympathizing with and praying for whim, just as his two predecessors in Oyo State – Also Akala and Abiola ajimobi – have sent in nothing words.
“I am saddened to receive the news of the infection of Governor Seyi Makinde with Coronavirus (Covid-19). Jehovah Ropheka: The Lord our Healer Exodus 15:26 will heal you.”
“I pray to Almighty God to heal you and protect your family as you go through the self-isolation and proper treatments. Similarly, I pray for the protection of all the citizens of the state from the Covid-19 scourge.”
“There is no established cure for COVID-19 yet but it is not a death sentence as it can be managed.”
“Therefore, I urge my fellow people to obey the governments and work collectively to stop the spread by constantly washing our hands and observing high standards of hygiene, avoiding social gatherings and events. Stay at home, stay safe,” Akala said in a statement.
