Woman in the dock for stealing phone, cash

A 55-year-old woman, Roseline Daniel, was on Wednesday brought before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court for alleged assault and stealing of mobile phone and cash.

The defendant , who resides at Ketu area of Lagos state, is accused of conspiring to harm two women and stealing from them at about 12 noon on Jan. 16 at Ademola Oshinowo Street, Ikosi, Ketu.

Daniel pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of assault and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Donjour Perezi, told the court that the defendant conspired with some others still at large to steal an Infinix X8 phone valued N39, 000 and N70, 000 from one Mrs Damilare Onikosi in her shop.

“Daniel and her accomplice beat up the complainant with a big wooden stick and used a broken bottle to inflict injury on her forehead and neck when she tried to resist them from taking her money.

“The defendant and her cohorts also assaulted one Mrs Titilayo Thomas by slapping her and using a wooden stick to beat her as she tried to alert people on what was going on in her neighbours shop,” he said.

According to the prosecutor the offence contravened Sections 173, 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015(Revised).

The Magistrate, Mrs Bukola Mogaji, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200, 000, with two sureties in like sum.

Mogaji said that the sureties must be gainfully employed.

She adjourned the case until Feb. 21 for mention.
