Does the traditional punishment of banishment still applies in modern Nigeria?
For the people of Okofia, Otolo Nnewi in Anambra State, the answer seems to be ‘Yes’.
The reason is that they have banished a man in his 60s for reportedly impregnating his daughter twice.
A Facebook user, Okoro Abraham, who shared the pictures of the event, noted, “Happening now at Okofia Otolo Nnewi, the location of the unizik college of health. This man from Okija impregnated his own daughter for the second time, now they are asked to leave Nnewi.”
The man is said to be from Okija in Ihiala Local Government Area.
He and his daughter had palm from tied around their necks to indicate that they committed an abomination.
