As the report of a probe the University of Lagos launched into the allegation of ‘sex for mark’ against a two lecturers in the institution is still being awaited, the Lagos State police command has said that one of them, Dr Bonyface Igbeneghu, has been invited for questioning.
The command’s PRO, Bala Elkana, told Linda Ikeji in an interview that the invitation has already ben extended to him through the school management.
Bala did not however indicate if the same has been extended to Dr Sam Oladapo, who was equally implicated in the BBC video report on the matter.
Elkana said Igbeneghu had been asked to come to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department SCID, Yaba for questioning once he concludes his appearance at the University’s disciplinary panel. Bala says Igbeneghu is only being given an opportunity to share his own side of the story.
“A letter has been sent to the school’s management since he is facing a panel there. Since he is their staff, we extended an invitation to him through the school. So we are expecting him to show up as soon as he finishes facing the panel.
“He is to report at the State CID Yaba. You know it is an allegation and under our laws, we have the presumption of innocence until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction. So once there is an allegation against you, you also have the right under the law to come and state your own side of the story.”
