‘For a rap album to win Album of the Year is very emotional for me.’
This is how Falz responded as his ‘Moral Instruction’ won the Album of the Year at the Headies.
He had very big colleagues to battle, in terms of the success and popularity of the albums they competed with.
In the category are Burna Boy’s ‘Outsider’ and Adekunle Gold’s ‘About 30’.
As Falz noted, it could not have been easy for rap to break the back of hip hop, pop and afro offerings that largely shape the Nigerian music terrain nowadays.
Besides, Falz has something else to be respected for. He is very sensitive to the ills going on in Nigeria, especially political sleaze. The fact that he has been able to process this into beautiful music thus makes him a model for those who preach that good music need not necessarily be empty.
Kudos to political music as Falz wins Album of the Year
