The Society of Women in Taxation has stressed the need for Nigerians to continue to pay their tax for national development.
Hajia Kudirat Abdul-Hamid, National Chairperson of society, stated on Thursday in Abuja.
Abdul-Hamid, who is also the Auditor-General for FCT, said the society would ensure that Nigerians pay their taxes for enhanced national development.
“What we stand to do, is not to compete with men in the tax profession or outshine them, but to contribute our quarter.
“We have the passion and compassion and we are interested in getting people to be convinced as to why they should pay their taxes,” she said.
She noted that the contributions of women in every society could not be underestimated, saying that women contribute significantly to the economy.
According to her, women constitute large percentage of those engaged in economic activities in every society.
“We have this sector of the economy that is not in the tax net and it is dominated by women,” she said.
She, however, stressed the need for government to create enabling business environment, saying that this was critical to boast the country’s revenue base.
