Nasarawa Government has said plans were underway to close down all private health institutions operating illegally, to rid the state of quacks in the health sector of the state.
Dr Ibrahim Adamu, Director, Public Health, Ministry of Health said this on Thursday while inspecting facilities at Huhassah College of Health Science and Technology, Mararaban Gurku, Karu Local Government Area of the state.
He said the importance of health to societal development could be over emphasised, adding that the state would ensure its population is protected against unregistered health institutions.
“The state is more than ever before prepared to monitor the activities of private health institutions across the state.
“We are here to inspect facilities in this institution, with the view to correcting any anomalies.
“We are concerned with the quality of manpower that will be trained in this institution because they are the ones that will be engaged to render health services to citizens.
“We must also sure that private health facilities operate, based on the necessary guidelines as well as have the necessary facilities to deliver quality service.
“We will, therefore, sanction any health institutions operating illegally in the state in the interest of the health of the people,’’ he said.
Adamu, who expressed satisfaction with the level of progress in the institution, urged the management to maintain high standard for the overall development of the state.
He also called on health workers in the state to adhere strictly to their professional ethics in order to save human lives.
The director promised that the ministry would continue to tackle quackery in the sector in the interest of the health of the people.
Mr Abdulrazak Mohammed, the Board Chairman of the school, expressed delight on the clearance given to the institution to operate.
He explained that the management of the institution had no option than to ensure the delivering of quality teachings and health services to the people.
