Chelsea’s manager, Frank Lampard, has confirmed midfielder Mason Mount’s injury but insisted they would wait for the doctors report before knowing how long he would be out.
Mount limped off the pitch just after 16 minutes in his side’s 1-0 defeat to Valencia in their Champions League opening group game at Stamford Bridge.
The 20-year-old was helped off by the medical team after a tight tackle he had with former Arsenal midfielder Francis Coquelin.
“We have to assess it over the next 24-48 hours to see the scale of the injury,” tweeted Lampard.
“We don’t know how bad it is. It is an ankle injury and it is a shame. He’s been playing so well and he started well,” Lampard said.
Mount has become one of the key players of Lampard’s team and has scored three goals in five appearances this season.
The England international was promoted to the Blues senior team in 2017 but was sent on loan to Vitesse and Derby County before coming back.
