Capital and most populous city of Thailand, Bangkok, has said it will organise Car Free Day 2019 to reduce traffic congestion and pollution.
The announcement was made by Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) on Wednesday.
Deputy Bangkok Governor, Sakoltee Phattiyakul, said in a news conference that the event would be on the same with the World Car Free Day, Sept. 22.
According to him, the event is held in many countries to encourage motorists to use public transportation and keep their cars at home for a day.
He added that it was essential that the BMA hold a car free day as Bangkok faces severe traffic problems.
However, instead of urging residents in Bangkok to use public transportation over personal cars, the BMA encourages people to ride bicycles to reduce the use of fuel.
