The Islamic Movement in Nigeria has carried out its Ashura mourning procession in Abuja despite police warnings against it.
The Ashura procession is an annual religious ritual carried out by the Shia Islamic sect all over the world on September 10.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu, had said the group should remain banned, adding that any form of procession by it would be treated as a gathering to promote terrorism.

“There is no going back on the plan to hold the much talked about annual procession. The government should not contemplate attacking us. The government wants to act illegally on our matter. So, I think it is wrong to think that we are supposed to withdraw our plan to hold the procession,” the IMN had, however, said.
Participants including men, women, and children held the procession from Berger Roundabout to Wuse, quickly concluded the exercise to avoid possible clash with security personnel.
According to reports, the procession started by 8am and lasted for about 25 minutes.
