Dr Mufutau Raheem, the Executive Chairman, Rahvet International Ltd., handling the construction of the state-owned 10,000 tonnes silo in Awe, Oyo State, has promised to deliver the project by January 2020.

Raheem made the promise on Tuesday when Mr Ojemuyiwa Ojekunle, the state Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, visited the Silos site on inspection.

The contractor appreciated Gov. Seyi Makinde for the opportunity given his company to return to site for the completion of the project.

He assured the state government that the project would be completed and delivered at the stipulated period of five months time.

The state government had directed the contractor to return to site for the completion of the project awarded by the immediate past state government.

The contract had been a subject of litigation when the last administration revoked the contract which the contractor claimed was at 68 per cent completion stage and the contractor subsequently headed to court to seek redress.

Ojekunle, during the visit, explained that the present government met the project at uncompleted stage due to litigation.

“Government entered into dialogue with all stakeholders to settle the issue amicably out of court as it is in the interest of the state to have value for the huge amount of money already expended on the project.

“We have successfully resolved the issue and the contractor is back to site today as documents relating to the contract have been perfected.

“We believe that our farmers will benefit from the project when completed, as the present administration is poised to make farm produce available to the people at cheap prices.

“The silo will assist in storing 10,000 tonnes of grains and other farm produce, while it will help in exporting farm produce that hitherto have always suffered wastage due to non-storage facilities,’’ he said.
