Police arraign man for allegedly stealing N90,000

The police, on Friday, arraigned one Francis Ejije, 35, before an Asaba Magistrates’ Court 5 for alleged theft of N90,000.

The prosecutor, Mrs Blessing Okafor, told the court that the money was entrusted in the care of the accused by one Mr Michael Ogbodu, for the purpose of buying ceiling board.

Okafor, however, added that the accused could not account for the money when the owner needed it.

The prosecutor said that the accused committed the offence on July 19 at No 36, Nnebisi road, Asaba.

She said that the offence was punishable under Section 390(8)(b) of the Criminal Code, Cap C21, Laws of Delta State of Nigeria, 2006.

The accused pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of N50,000 and a surety in like sum.

The magistrate, Mrs Edith Anumodu, ordered that the surety must reside within the jurisdiction and should provide an affidavit of means and two passport photographs.

She adjourned the case until Aug. 20 for definite hearing.
