As the arrest of SaharaReporter’s publisher, Omoyele Sowore, sparks arguments on Facebook and other social media, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has condemned the Buhari government over the development.
Atiku, who was the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party during last year’s election, described the arrest as “kidnapping in the guise of arrest.”
Sowore was arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services at his home on Saturday.
While many people are arguing for and against the arrest, Atiku said in a tweet, “Freedom of speech is not only constitutionally guaranteed, it is the substructure of our democracy.”
