An American, who allegedly parked at a restricted area and assaulted a towing van operator at the Muritala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, was on Thursday brought to an Ogba Magustrates’ Court.
The police, however, could not arraign Breedlove Shawn, aged 52, who was brought to court at 3.00pm.
The arraignment will take place on Friday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that no reason was given formally for the shift in the arraignment, but a reliable source, who pleaded anonymity said that Shawn was brought late.
The Divisional Police Officer, MMIA, Mr Danjuma Garba had said that the U.S. citizen on Wednesday morning at the MMIA used a car key to injure the ear of 32-year-old Femi Banjoko, an employee of Billafary Towing Services Ltd., causing him grievous injury.
Garba said that the assault occurred after Shawn was accosted by workers of the company contracted by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria.
According to the DPO, Shawn parked at a restricted area of the airport, and the workere attempted to tow his vehicle.
He said that Shawn had been to Nigeria four times to see a friend.
Also, the Chief Executive Officer of the company, Mr Lamidi Falekulo, alleged that the American broke his car key in one of Banjoko’s ears, causing blood to gush out.
Falekulo said that Banjoko was rushed to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, where an operation was carried out to save his life.
“The man parked at the restricted area where ‘No Parking’ notice was conspicuously written,” he said. (NAN
