Sen. Ned Nwoko (APC-Delta) has congratulated Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national football team, the Flamingos, on their historic victory at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
This is contained in a statement issued by Nwoko, who represents Delta North Senatorial District, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Sunday.
NAN reports that the hard fighting Flamingos defeated Japan 2-1 on Saturday to win the tournament in Morocco.
The victory marked Nigeria’s first-ever FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup title and made the team the first African women’s side to win a FIFA World Cup title at any level.
“Congratulations to our Flamingos on this remarkable victory over Japan to emerge champions of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
“You have made history, lifted the Nigerian flag high and shown the world what our young talents are capable of achieving.
“This victory is a reflection of the talent, determination and resilience of our young people.
“I hope this achievement inspires greater investment in grassroots sports and creates more opportunities for our young athletes to shine.
“You have made Nigeria proud. Congratulations, girls!” Nwoko, who is also Chancellor of the Sports University of Nigeria, Idumuje-Ugboko, said.
