The National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) has urged prospective tertiary students to prioritize colleges of education as their first choice for acquiring professional teaching qualifications and practical skills.
The Executive Secretary of the Commission, Dr. Angela Ajala, highlighted in Abuja that colleges of education nationwide have been strategically positioned to enhance teacher professional development while equipping graduates with vocational skills for economic independence.
Ajala expressed confidence that the implementation of the dual mandate—enabling colleges to award the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE), Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degrees, and specialized skill certificates—will transform these institutions into top-tier choices within the next decade.
She emphasized that combining rigorous pedagogical training with practical vocational competencies expands career pathways for graduates, boosting their employability and capacity for entrepreneurship.
The NCCE boss noted that equipping future educators with income-generating skills reduces single-source employment reliance, improves the quality of national teacher preparation, and ultimately ensures graduates can comfortably secure or create employment upon graduation.
