The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a suspected cultist, Okiki Adewusi, 26, over alleged involvement in cultism and violent crime in the Ore area of Atan, recovering two locally made pistols, three live cartridges and a battle axe.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Abeokuta.

He said operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Squad, acting on credible intelligence, arrested Adewusi, popularly known as “Baba Obo”, at about 8 p.m. on October 26.

A search of his residence led to the recovery of one locally made pistol and three live cartridges.

Babaseyi said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect had allegedly admitted to being a member of the Eiye Confraternity.

He added that a follow-up operation on October 27, at about 6:30 p.m., led operatives to another location, where they recovered a second locally made pistol and a battle axe.

The police spokesperson said efforts were ongoing to arrest other suspected accomplices, recover additional weapons and establish the full circumstances of the case.

The Commissioner of Police in Ogun, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their vigilance, professionalism and use of intelligence.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks, curbing cult-related activities and tackling illegal possession of firearms.

Ojajuni urged residents to provide timely and credible information about suspected criminal activities, assuring them that the command would continue to act on actionable intelligence to protect lives and property across the state.
