The Kano State Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapper and recovered an AK-47 rifle and 18 rounds of ammunition during a search operation in Falgore Forest.
The operation followed an earlier security operation on October 17, during which joint security forces neutralised two suspected bandits after they collected ₦10 million in ransom from relatives of a kidnapped victim. The victim was rescued unharmed, and the ransom was recovered.
The police spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna-Kiyawa, said on Monday that operatives attached to Doguwa Division, working with local hunters known as Yan Bula, combed the forest and surrounding areas on Sunday at about 6:30 a.m. to track fleeing suspects and recover weapons.
During the operation, the operatives recovered the rifle and ammunition and arrested a suspect linked to the kidnapping of Alhaji Kabiru Aliyu of Falgore village in Doguwa Local Government Area.
Haruna-Kiyawa said the rescued victim identified the suspect as one of his guards during captivity, alleging that he brought him food at night and beat him severely.
The suspect has been transferred to the command’s Criminal Investigation Department Anti-Kidnapping Squad for further investigation and efforts to arrest other suspects and recover additional evidence.
The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu-Bakori, commended the Yan Bula hunters for supporting Operation Kukan Kura and efforts to secure Falgore Forest and neighbouring communities.
He urged residents to provide timely and credible information to support the command’s efforts to tackle banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes.
