The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has urged Nigerians to embrace affordable, clean and quality energy to promote sustainable development and protect the environment.

The Director of SON’s Northwest Regional Operations, Adamu Saleh, made the call on Wednesday in Kaduna during a road walk to mark the 2026 World Standards Day.

Saleh said the event was organised to sensitise the public to the importance of standardisation, quality assurance and the role of standards in improving lives.

He said the annual celebration, held on October 14, provided an opportunity to educate stakeholders on the need to embrace standards in their daily activities.

According to him, this year’s theme, “Shared Vision for a Better World,” focuses on Sustainable Development Goal 7, which promotes affordable and clean energy.

He said SON aimed to improve public understanding of its activities and the importance of standardisation and quality assurance in promoting safety and protecting consumers.

Also speaking, the State Coordinator of SON’s Kaduna State Office 1, Emmanuel Hussani, described energy as essential to domestic, commercial and industrial activities.

Hussani said the focus on affordable and clean energy reflected its importance across various sectors, noting that energy sources included solar, wind and other forms of power.

He said SON was committed to ensuring that energy products available to consumers were affordable, environmentally friendly and compliant with quality and safety standards.

“Our commitment is to ensure that whoever is using these energy products gets value for their money.

“The energy products must not only be affordable and clean but also be of good quality and safe for users and the environment,” he said.

Hussani urged Nigerians to patronise quality energy products and embrace cleaner energy sources to improve their quality of life and support environmental sustainability.

The 2026 World Standards Day celebration was organised by SON’s Northwest Regional Office in Kaduna to promote public awareness of standardisation and quality assurance.
