The only female governorship candidate in Kano State, Furera Ahmad, has pledged to tackle drug abuse and thuggery if elected in the forthcoming general election.
Ahmad, who is contesting under the Because Of Our Tomorrow (BOOT) Party, made the pledge in an interview in Kano on Wednesday.
She said she would prioritise the welfare of women, children and youths, noting that drug abuse and thuggery had become major challenges in the state.
Ahmad criticised politicians who allegedly engage youths in thuggery during election campaigns, sometimes under the influence of drugs. She said women’s close relationship with their children could help them identify and address harmful behaviours early.
The candidate expressed optimism about her chances, saying she was gaining support from women and other groups.
She also urged Nigerians to reject vote buying and avoid selling their votes for food or small financial rewards, calling on voters to choose candidates based on competence rather than party affiliation.
Ahmad further urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure credible elections and declare the rightful winners.
