The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has seized counterfeit alcoholic beverages worth more than ₦2 billion during a raid at Trade Fair Market in Lagos.
The agency said the operation, conducted by its Investigation and Enforcement Directorate, followed intelligence exposing illegal activities within the market complex.
Operatives uncovered more than 20 illegal stores hidden in makeshift parking spaces, where suspects were allegedly blending counterfeit alcoholic beverages, revalidating expired and unsafe drinks for resale, and stockpiling banned imported products.
Two suspects were arrested, while the seized products were evacuated from the complex.
NAFDAC warned that the circulation of counterfeit, expired and unsafe alcoholic beverages posed a threat to public health. It urged the public to report suspected illegal production, product revalidation and sales.
Complaints can be made through the agency’s toll-free line, 0800-1-NAFDAC (0800-1-623322).
