American singer, SZA, has opened up about her childhood and personal growth in a heartfelt Instagram post shared on October 12, 2026.
The singer, whose real name is Solána Rowe, shared a childhood video of herself at a desk, explaining that the footage was recorded during a Bring Your Kid to Work Day with her father around 1999 or 2000, when she was nine years old.
In the caption, SZA recalled that she wore a hijab daily at the time and said she delivered her part in British English, despite other children using the same script.
Reflecting on her younger self, the singer revealed that something happened to her at age 11, after which she felt she lost that part of herself for a long time.
She explained that she eventually became guarded, anxious, resentful and angry.
SZA described her recent experience as rediscovering the younger version of herself, whom she affectionately referred to as her, and promised to protect and uplift that part of herself moving forward.
The post offers a personal glimpse into the singer’s reflections on childhood, emotional struggles and reclaiming a part of herself she felt she had lost
