A 45-year-old man, Benjamin Adeniyi, was on Monday arraigned before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan for allegedly endangering a woman’s life by posing as a medical doctor.
The police charged Adeniyi with conspiracy, impersonation and negligence. He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecution counsel, Sgt. Oluwafemi Ajayi, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offences between 2022 and Oct. 2 in the Olodo area of Ibadan.
Ajayi alleged that Adeniyi falsely presented himself as a medical doctor and operated a hospital despite lacking the required qualifications.
He further alleged that the defendant administered fertility injections to Mrs Tolulope Shittu, knowing that he was not qualified to do so.
The prosecutor also alleged that Adeniyi fraudulently obtained N4 million from Shittu Olanrewaju and N6 million from Bayo Ogedemgbe for surgeries he was not qualified to perform.
He said the offences contravened Sections 516, 484 and 343(f) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The magistrate, Mrs A.T. Oyediji, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N2 million, with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case until Dec. 21 for hearing.
