The Health Sector Reform Foundation of Nigeria (HERFON) will unveil a two-volume book on non-communicable diseases (NCDs) on Oct. 15 in Abuja, alongside free health screening for participants.
HERFON’s Executive Secretary, Dr Celestine Okorie, announced this in a statement, saying the publication, titled A Review of Non-Communicable Diseases in Nigeria, was produced under the HERFON Health Review Series with support from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).
The book features contributions from more than 70 authors and examines common and emerging NCDs, their burden, prevention, management and control in Nigeria.
Okorie said Limi Hospital, Abuja, would provide free health screening at the event to promote early detection and better management of the diseases.
The unveiling will feature Dr Chijioke Kaduru, Chairman of the Non-Communicable Diseases Foundation, Ngor Okpala, Imo, while the Emir of Shonga, Dr Haliru Yahaya, will chair the occasion.
The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Pate, is expected to attend as Special Guest of Honour.
HERFON urged healthcare professionals, policymakers, researchers, development partners, media organisations and members of the public to attend and participate in discussions on tackling NCDs in Nigeria.
