The Sokoto State Government has donated N38.25 million and bags of grains to the families of 24 fallen soldiers and 57 injured personnel in recognition of their sacrifices in service.

The Secretary to the State Government, Bello Sifawa, presented the donations at a ceremony in Sokoto, saying the gesture reflected the government’s appreciation of the military’s role in protecting lives and maintaining security.

Under the arrangement, each family of the 24 deceased soldiers will receive N1 million, while each of the 57 injured personnel will receive N250,000.

The government also distributed 105 bags of rice, maize and millet, with two bags allocated to each family of a fallen soldier and one bag to each injured personnel.

Sifawa, accompanied by the governor’s Special Adviser on Security Matters, retired Col. Ahmed Usman, and other officials, expressed sympathy with the bereaved families and wished the injured personnel a speedy recovery.

He said the donation demonstrated the state’s solidarity with the military and its commitment to supporting personnel who risk their lives to protect residents.

Receiving the items, the Garrison Commander of the Nigerian Army’s 8 Division in Sokoto, Brig.-Gen. I.O. Amah, described the gesture as heartwarming and a source of consolation to the military.

He thanked Gov. Ahmed Aliyu for recognising soldiers’ sacrifices, noting that although no amount of money could replace a lost life, the support demonstrated the government’s appreciation.

Amah reaffirmed the military’s determination to tackle criminal activities in the state and said the gesture would encourage serving personnel and families of those who died in the line of duty.
