Three Saudi nationals, including a Saudia airline captain, were killed in two attacks on Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport on Thursday, aviation authorities said.

The ‌‍‍‍‌‍‌General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) disclosed the casualties in a statement on Friday, adding that several people of different nationalities sustained injuries in the incidents.

According to the authority, the first attack targeted facilities at the airport, while the second struck an aircraft operated by Saudia, Saudi Arabia’s national carrier.

Among the deceased was Captain Hamoud Ali Alkalthami, who was identified as one of the victims of the attacks.

GACA said emergency response teams and relevant authorities acted promptly after the incidents, evacuating the injured to hospitals for treatment.

It noted that the victims suffered injuries ranging from minor to critical, while the attacks also resulted in property damage.

The authority said it was working with security agencies to assess the destruction and implement necessary measures to protect passengers, airport workers and the country’s civil aviation infrastructure.

GACA further confirmed that airport operations and air traffic had resumed following the attacks.
