Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh has spoken against substance abuse, drawing from her past experience to warn about the dangers of addiction and encourage those struggling with dependency to seek recovery.
Dikeh, a mother of one, shared her message on Instagram, describing her past experience with substance use as a “dark road”.
“Substances don’t make the pain go away,” she said, explaining that drugs might provide temporary escape but leave underlying emotional pain unresolved.
The actress said addiction gradually takes over a person’s life, eventually depriving them of joy and vitality.
Reflecting on her past public image, Dikeh said she was previously judged as chaotic and unstable, but revealed that she was privately crying for help and using substances to mask deep-seated emotional pain.
She urged the public to respond with grace and empathy rather than condemnation toward people struggling with dependency.
Dikeh encouraged those battling addiction not to lose hope, saying her own experience showed that recovery was possible.
