The Nigerian Professor, Augustine Nwagbara, has said he would have been dead if the Nigerian High Commissioner in Ghana, Olufemi Abikoye, did not intervene when the Ghanaian government arrested him.
Nwagbara was arrested for condemning Ghana treatment of Nigerians after a video of him criticising the government in their country went viral.
Discussing with the CEO, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa,on how he was treated Nwagbara said:
“They said I was sacked, then dismissed, which was another wrong word to use, as you cannot dismiss some body on sabbatical in your country. As I speak with you , I have not received any letter of sack or dismissal whereas various factions of the letters are already in circulation in Ghana and on social media.”
The Professor also commended Olufemi for ensuring his safety throughout the period he was being attacked.
“But for him, I probably would have been a dead man”, he said.
