The Police Command in Rivers has arrested two suspected members of a six-man kidnapping syndicate allegedly involved in the abduction of a resident in Port Harcourt.

The command’s spokesperson, ASP Blessing Agabe, disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Port Harcourt.

Agabe said the victim was abducted on Sept. 6 near Fidelity Bank, Garrison, and taken to Igbugulu Waterside, Borokiri, where he was held for three days.

She said the victim was released after his relatives allegedly paid N10.3 million ransom.

According to her, the incident was reported to the police on Sept. 7, after which operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit commenced an intelligence-led operation.

Agabe said the operation led to the arrest of two suspected members of the syndicate, aged 24 and 36.

She said the suspects confessed during interrogation to their alleged involvement in the kidnapping and disclosed that the gang comprised six members who used a white minibus during the operation.

Agabe said the command had intensified efforts to arrest the remaining members of the syndicate.

She quoted the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, as urging residents to provide credible information on kidnappers and other violent crimes, assuring them that such information would be treated confidentially.

Adepoju also reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-led operations to disrupt kidnapping syndicates and other criminal networks across the state.
