The Delta Police Command has arrested two suspected cultists over the alleged murder of a 25-year-old man identified as Godfrey at Jesse Main Market, Ethiope West Local Government Area.
The suspects were arrested on Thursday by operatives of the command’s Violent Crime Response Unit after police received credible information from a viral video showing suspected cultists celebrating the killing.
Police spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, said the operatives stormed the suspects’ hideout in Oghara and arrested two of them.
One battle axe, four cutlasses and a hammer were recovered during the operation.
Preliminary investigation revealed that one of the suspects still at large was allegedly seeking the number one position in the Aro Bagger confraternity and planned to eliminate a rival cult member to attain the position.
Edafe said the suspect allegedly connived with the two arrested suspects and a friend of the victim, who is also on the run, to carry out the attack.
He said efforts were ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects, while the two detained suspects were assisting the police with useful information.
