The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won all 17 chairmanship and 260 councillorship positions in the Enugu State Local Government elections held on Saturday.
The Executive Chairman of the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC), Prof. Christian Ngwu, announced the results at the commission’s headquarters in Enugu on Sunday.
Ngwu declared the election free and fair, saying it was conducted in accordance with the rules guiding the commission. He added that certificates of return would be issued to the winners.
Speaking after collecting his certificate of return, the Chairman-elect of Enugu South Local Government Area, Chief Caleb Ani, attributed the APC’s victory to Gov. Peter Mbah’s developmental projects in the state.
Ani urged residents to support Mbah in the 2027 general elections to enable him to continue his work.
The APC state Chairman, Dr Martin Chukwunweike, said the result demonstrated the party’s dominance in the state.
He said the party would continue to support the developmental efforts of President Bola Tinubu and Mbah.
Results released by ENSIEC showed that APC chairmanship and councillorship candidates won with wide margins across the state.
In Igbo-Eze South, Chairman-elect Chief Ugochukwu Ukwueze secured all 51,033 votes cast, while his counterpart in Igbo-Eze North, Dr Chris Onyebuchi, also secured all 137,751 votes cast.
In Aninri Local Government Area, Ugochukwu Nwanjoku polled 17,016 votes to defeat his BOOT opponent, Chief Emeka Amasie, who scored 2,006 votes.
In Enugu South, incumbent chairman and chairman-elect Chief Caleb Ani polled 71,335 votes to defeat his closest rival, NDC candidate Mr A.A. Ugwu, who scored 1,311 votes.
