Abia Governor Alex Otti has recalled an alleged assassination attempt on him in 2015, saying his decision to serve God sustained him through life-threatening challenges in politics.
Otti spoke at the Abia Solemn Assembly and Covenant Renewal Service in Umuahia on Thursday night, where he recounted how attackers invaded his Abuja residence in July 2015 while he was away.
He said the attackers shot two policemen dead and searched the adjoining compound after failing to find him, adding that he believed his decision to leave Abuja that day was divinely directed.
Otti said some friends had discouraged him from entering politics and advised him to seek protection through traditional means, but he remained committed to serving God.
Quoting Joshua 24:15, he said the experience strengthened his conviction and that his administration would continue on the path of faith and service.
The event, themed “Remembering the Covenant”, was attended by government officials and clergymen. It featured prayers, praise and worship, ministrations and exhortations.
