The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has donated six furnished classrooms, an administrative block, toilet facilities and a solar-powered borehole system to Junior Secondary School, Baupma, Abuja.
The donation also included 120 three-in-one student desks, office tables and chairs for administrative staff.
The Kubwa Stake President of the Church, Ifeanyi Agiriga, said the project followed an appeal by a teacher at the school, Mrs Eno Umana, and was implemented under the church’s humanitarian programme on self-reliance and education.
Agiriga said the church conducted an independent assessment of the school’s needs before securing approval and funding for the project.
The Mandate Secretary for Education in the FCT, Dr Danlami Hayyo, represented by Acting Chairman of the FCT Universal Basic Education Board, Rabo Nsu, commended the intervention and described it as a demonstration of the shared responsibility of government and other stakeholders in providing quality education.
He urged the school and community to maintain the facilities and said efforts would be made to address some of the remaining needs, particularly fencing.
The school principal, Sikiru Akeem, said the school, established in 2023, had grown from five teachers and eight students but still needed electricity, additional teachers, furniture, fencing and security.
He said the school had experienced theft and vandalism and appealed for a permanent site to allow future expansion.
