The Labour Party presidential candidate, Dr Chibuzor Okereke, has urged Nigerians to take greater interest in political participation and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards where necessary ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a statement on Thursday, Okereke said citizens should have a voice in determining who represents them, noting that political decisions influence the environment for economic activities.
He said the Labour Party was committed to providing leadership that would improve the socio-economic conditions of Nigerians, adding that its campaign would demonstrate a different approach to governance.
Okereke, who endorsed Abia Gov. Alex Otti and other Labour Party candidates, urged citizens to vote for the party across all elections.
He said that if elected president in 2027, he would ensure the local government system works, introduce zero-based budgeting and reset Nigeria’s institutional governance under the “Nigerians First Vision.”
He also promised to promote youth and women development through inclusion and participatory governance, expand Federal Character beyond ethnicity to include youths, women and Persons With Disabilities, and move the country from a palliative and distributive economy to a productive one.
“Democracy should not merely be about elections but should translate into tangible improvements in people’s lives.
“In Abia, Gov. Otti through his developmental strides has increased the happiness index and human development index from zero to 99 per cent.
“Democracy must deliver happiness to the Nigerian people. Democracy must improve the lives of people,” Okereke said.
