The Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN), in partnership with the MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF), is expanding professional skills development opportunities for filmmakers and other creative practitioners across Nigeria.
DGN National President, Uche Agbo, said the partnership aims to strengthen the creative workforce, bridge skills gaps, improve professionalism and create networking opportunities.
He said the MTF Regional Workshop Series would hold in Abeokuta, Ibadan, Owerri, Abia, Abuja, Kaduna, Asaba and Port Harcourt, giving directors, writers, producers, cinematographers and other practitioners access to experienced industry professionals.
Agbo said the programme was designed to ensure professional development opportunities were not concentrated in Lagos, adding that the guild hoped to make the initiative an annual programme and eventually expand it to all 36 states.
“We have had workshops and a lot of trainings in Lagos. We had one in March this year.
“Now we want to spread it all round the country,” he said.
The DGN president also called for stronger government support for creative-sector skills development, urging the government to provide an enabling environment for private-sector initiatives to thrive.
He said a stronger creative industry could create jobs, reduce poverty and provide alternative livelihoods for unemployed young people.
